Today I’m going to tell you about my favorite music masterpiece.  It was written by Tchaikovsky and is entitled “Serenade for Strings in C major, op. 48.”  Have you ever heard of it?  I think you may have heard it somewhere before. The music begins from the first measure with a beautiful melody very characteristic of Tchaikovsky.  Unfortunately, it was once used in a TV commercial for a Japanese staff agency company called Oh-jinji.  In the commercial, an office worker gives up on an aggressive, stupid boss and then he decides to make a phone call to the agency.

As soon as he hopelessly takes the telephone receiver, the music starts dramatically and comically as well.  Since the commercial became popular, many people have come to associate the music with a comical image.

Perhaps there is still a tendency for many people to laugh at the music. What a pity!  Is it OK like this?  No way!  I would like to change the negative image.

The music is mostly written in C major, but part of it is also in G minor. That’s why it makes us feel sad and lonely. In this composition the stringed instruments create a beautiful melancholy melody.

Presentation 1

The music piece I’m going to introduce to you today is Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, C minor, op. 67, the 1st movement.   Would you open your score to p. 31 and look at the first bar?
The music has a unique motif and begins powerfully as it is played by several instruments in unison.  The introductory notes are very well known to almost everyone.  I feel strongly moved by the progression of the music in which the motif is repeated many times, gaining momentum each time.  The motif creates a very intense energy, which unifies not only the first movement but also the entire piece.  I would like to play this piece in an orchestra some day.
Well then, let’s listen to the CD and pay attention to how the motif will appear in the music.

 How did you like it?  Did you notice the successive 8th notes were often used in the music?  This rhythm appeared in several ways. For example, it appeared with an intense energetic burst when a large number of instruments were played together, or with a sweet melodic sound created from deeper-toned instruments.  That’s all fantastic, isn’t it?

「今日紹介する作品はベートーベン作曲、交響曲5番 ハ短調 作品67 第1楽章です。楽譜の○○ページの○○小節目を見てください。

この曲は、特徴的な動機がユニゾンで奏されることにより、迫力ある始り方をします。このことはとても有名です。しかし、この動機が何度も現れ、発展していく過程に私は感動を覚えます。第1楽章だけでなく、作品全体 を統一するこの動機は、大変強いエネルギーを持っています。いつかこの曲をオーケストラの奏者として演奏してみたいです。



これまで行ってきた演奏修学旅行について、その内容をプログラム化し、体系的なものとして充実させるため、「総合学習(木曜日6限:1・2年生における各1単位)」の中で事前・事後の学習を行い、教育課程上、その位置づけを明確化する。最も重要となる派遣先に関しては、東京藝大の海外連携ネットワーク基盤を活かして協議・選定することとし、まず、平成29年度は、イギリスの名門である「英国王立音楽院」を派遣先に決定している。(平成28年度は国内(香川県高松市(高松第一高等学校))を予定。平成30年度以降に関しては、フランスやドイツ、アメリカ等の欧米や、台湾・韓国等アジアを含め現在協議中であり、国内外を含めて幅広に検討中)具体的には、現在の演奏修学旅行をベースとして、2年生全員を対象として実施することとし、派遣前の事前学習(25 時間)から始まり、実際の派遣による現地打合せ、リハーサルや舞台演奏・共演(9 月、5~7 日間程度、延べ30 時間)を行い、派遣後の事後学習(総括5時間とレポート)といった内容の教育プログラムとする。
